TurboGears, 10+ years of redesigning a web framework

TurboGears is one of the longest living python web frameworks. From version 1 to version 2 and now up to 2.4, it was rewrote from scratch at least three times trying to balance backward compatibility with modern features. What’s its history and which lessons and tricks we learnt in those 10+ years.
