Context matters: producing more useful logs with Python

May 26, 2019, 3 p.m. - 3:25 p.m.

We’ve all been there, tailing and greping through the logs on our servers trying to figure out why our app is doing this and not that! Often multiple web requests from multiple users are interleaved in our logs making our task even more difficult. What if there was an easier way?

In this talk Fergal will discuss techniques for making web application logs more useful. He'll discuss how to add context to our logs, how to produce logs in a machine friendly format and how to store logs in a way that makes them easy to consult when necessary. He will focus on techniques utilizing the Python standard library rather than any specific third party libraries or services.
